Explore contemporary India with our experts who will share and lead discussions on their favourite books.
Passage to India will review books monthly on Indian modern history, society and foreign politics. Books lined up to read for the series are: The Last Mughal by acclaimed UK historian, William Dalrymple, the 2007 Man Booker Prize short-listed Animal's People by Indra Sinha.
The inaugural speaker for the series is Professor Robin Jeffrey from the Australian National University. Professor Jeffrey is an expert in the modern history and politics of India. From the 1960s he taught in north India for the Regional Institute of English and the Canadian University Service Overseas (CUSO) before completing a doctorate in modern Indian history at Sussex. He is a graduate from the University of Victoria in British Columbia and University of Sussex. Professor Jeffrey is also the author of The Decline of Nayar Dominance, 1976; What’s Happening to India? 1986; Politics, Women and Well-Being: How Kerala Became ‘a Model’, 1992; India’s Newspaper Revolution, 2000.
He will be reviewing and sharing his views on The Last Mughal by best selling author/historian William Dalrymple.
