Topic:  From Burma to China, the UNICEF Journey with Dr. Yin Yin Nwe, UNICEF Representative to China
Speaker:  Dr Yin Yin Nwe
Outline:
Dr. Yin Yin Nwe, UNICEF’s Representative for China since December 2006, will walk us through her remarkable life journey and her work with UNICEF since 1991.

She left her hometown in Myanmar (formerly Burma) due to the violence that engulfed the nation in the 1980s. Dr. Nwe has since embarked on an extraordinary expedition around the world.

Prior to joining UNICEF, Dr. Nwe held positions in the Yangon University and was a post-doctoral researcher at the Munich University. In 1991, she joined UNICEF as an Environment Project Officer, and since then, has held positions as: UNICEF Programme Officer for Central and Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States; UNICEF Regional Monitoring and Evaluation Advisor in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire; UNICEF Regional Planning Officer for the Middle East and North Africa and UNICEF Chief of Tsunami Support. She is an accomplished trainer in planning, monitoring and evaluation, which led to her involvement in a number of UNICEF-supported programmes and initiatives in partnership with several governments.

As UNICEF Representative for China, Dr, Nwe is strongly committed to improving the lives of Chinese youths. In particular, the rectification of education inequality against young girls and the “Unite for Children, Unite against AIDS” campaign.

This event is presented by UNICEF Australia & Asialink.
